Come with us as we help you pack for Hawai’i!
Temperatures in Hawai’i
Temperatures in Hawai’i
Hawai’i is a tropical destination with a climate to match. Average temperatures in Hawai’i are 29°C throughout the year, with lows sinking to 25°C and temps at night dropping around 12°C, and an average year-round water temperature of 23°C. Rainfall may dampen the ground but not the temperature, so even the rainy season on outer islands sees warm days with cool evenings. Since many My Hawaii resorts are located on the waterfront, nighttime temperatures can drop with the accompanying sea breeze.
What to Wear in Hawai’i
What to Wear in Hawai’i
We recommend lightweight, breathable clothing that can keep the sun off your shoulders during those lazy beachside afternoons. A sundress or two for evening meals at the five-star restaurants lining the avenues is recommended, however, there is no taboo for wearing shorts and a tee out for dinner and cocktails. If the plan is to hit some clubs and go dancing or to a show, dressing up a little is the norm, though mostly in flat shoes.

Remember that less is more, and you’re sure to include some shopping in your Hawai’i holiday. Leaving yourself plenty of room on the way there means more space to bring souvenirs home! Ensure you have a hat, sunscreen, light rain jacket, and sturdy walking shoes or hiking boots if you plan on walking or hiking (volcanoes, waterfalls, or Diamond Head, for example). If you’re planning on hanging out by the pool, thongs/flip-flops will suit just fine. Bear in mind that all resorts provide guests with beach towels, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.
What Not to Bring to Hawai’i
What Not to Bring to Hawai’i
With the warm weather and traditional surf atmosphere, dressy clothes are not a necessity, nor are thick, heavy jumpers or jackets. There’s no need to pack beach towels as your resort will have them. You also won’t need a power adapter – most hotels have power outlets that accept Australian devices.

Forget to Bring Something to Hawai’i?
Forget to Bring Something to Hawai’i?
ABC Stores are ubiquitous throughout Hawai’i, especially in Honolulu. These stores are where you can find anything you may have forgotten, from aspirin to mascara to a toy ukulele. There is also the International Marketplace and Waikiki Beach Walk in central Waikiki. The real shopping, however, is done at one of the two main centres in Waikiki: Ala Moana shopping centre or the Waikele Premium Outlets which have everything from Calvin Klein and GAP to Vans and Converse. These two destinations are day trips themselves as there’s so much to see and do. Discover more about shopping in Hawai’i here.
