A Liquid Playground for Whales
Every year, 12,000 humpback whales make their way past Hawaii in their migration. Whale season is roughly December to April, while Mothers with their calves can be seen in January and February.
You can see whales from any island; however, Maui is the best place to view whales because they give birth in the warm waters and stay for longer.
The best way to see whales is on a dedicated whale-watching boat. Stand-up paddle boarding is also an intimate way to view whales, but you’ll likely see fewer whales than you would from a boat. Book your whale-watching experience for the beginning of your holiday (that way if you miss out on sightings, some companies will invite you to return for free).
Sunrise is the best time of day to see the whales as the water is so still.
